Leon City History
The city was the home to diverse tribal groups of Guamares, Chichimecas and Toltecas. The city was discovered by Viceroy Don Martin Enriquez de Almanza in 1576. The city got political economic and social set back during the American War of Independence. The economic condition slowly developed after the war and the prosperity of the city could be well seen in the Livestock Exhibition of 1923.
