Months from May to August are very hot. The city receives rainfall from September to November. Winter season stretches from December to April. Hurricanes are a common phenomenon in the month of June.

Cancun Geography


The topography of Cancun is very flat. The land is covered with tropical jungle. The beaches of Cancun have innumerous inlets, beaches, bays and mangrove swamps. The area has no important rivers except the Honda River. There are many sweet water lakes in the region.

Cancun History


After a lot of developmental work in the 1970 the place was finally given the recognition of a city in 1972. Many investors had become interested in Cancun and a number of hotels were opened here.

Cancun has always been the spring of inspiration for nature lovers. The white sandy beaches of Cancun have been the main reason for attracting the vast number of tourists. Home to a number of beaches, the city is famous for para sailing, wave-runners and snorkeling. The tourist zone or "Zona Hotelera" which is a thin island attracts large number of tourists. Cancun Island is a beautiful lagoon which is the home of marinas, golf courses, islands and inlets. The city has a Party Zone where the tourists will find night clubs and discos. Some of the archaeological sites like Ruinas El Rey attract tourists for their historic significance.
