President of Mexico is the chief of the governing body of the Mexican Republic. He also serves as the head of the military forces of the United Mexican States. The tenure of the Mexican President continues for six years. Felipe Calderon, the present Mexican president came to the throne on 1st December 2006.
Mexican Presidential Election
President of Mexico is selected by presidential elections. It has been noticed that after 1994 all the Mexican presidential elections have maintained considerable transparency. The Federal government of Mexico follows strict electoral law to ensure peaceful presidential election. The contenders of the Mexican presidential election are required to satisfy certain prerequisites in order to get the nomination.
Some of the essential prerequisites for presidential nomination in Mexico are as follows:
- The candidate must be born in the Mexican territory and living there for a minimum of 20 year period.
- The age of the candidate must not be less than 35 years.
- In order to get nomination for the Mexican presidential election, the candidate should not be engaged in armed forces at least for six months before the presidential election.
- The functionaries of religious institutions are not allowed to compete in Mexican presidential election.
The present Mexican president belongs to the National Action Party of Mexico. In his first public address Felipe Calderon urged the natives to give proper respect to Mexican constitution. He also urged the common people to fight against drug trafficking and other social problems like civil unrest and kidnappings unitedly.
