Mexican States

There are thirty one Mexican States comprising the federation of United Mexican States. The states in Mexico are sovereign and independent. The Federal District along with the thirty one states of Mexico are together termed federal entities. The thirty one Mexican states can be listed as below:

Zacatecas: This state covers an area of 73, 103 km2. Zacatecas is the capital of this state. Veracruz: This state covers an area of 72, 815 km2. Xalapa is the capital. Tamaulipas: Ciudad Victoria is the capital of this state. Sonora: This state covers an area of 180,833 km2. Hermosillo is the capital. San Luis Potosi: This state covers an area of 63,038 km2. San Luis Potosi is the capital.

• Puebla: This state covers an area of 33,995 km2. Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza, Puebla is the capital.
• Nuevo Leon: This state covers an area of 64,555 km2 . Monterrey is the capital.
• Morelos: This state covers an area of 4,950 km2. Cuernavaca is the capital.
• Mexico: This state covers an area of 21,196. Toluca is the capital.
• Hidalgo: This state covers an area of 20,502 km2. Pachuca de Soto is the capital.
• Guanajuato: This state covers an area of 33,919 km2. Santa Fe de Guanajuato is the capital.
• Durango: This state covers an area of 123,181 km2. Victoria de Durango is the capital.
• Coahuila: This state covers an area of 149,511km2 . Saltillo is the capital.
• Chiapas: This state covers an area of 73,724 km2. Tuxtla Gutierrez is the capital.
• Baja California Sur: This state covers an area of 73,677. La Paz is the capital.
• Aguascalientes: This state covers an area of 5,197 km2. Aguascalientes is the capital.
• Yucatan: This state covers an area of 39,340 km2 . Merida is the capital.
• Tlaxcala: This state covers an area of 3,914 km2. Tlaxcala is the capital.
• Tabasco: This state covers an area of 25,267 km2. Villahermosa is the capital.
• Sinaloa: This state covers an area of 58,092 km2. Culiacan is the capital.
• Queretaro: This state covers an area of 11,978 km2. Santiago de Queretaro is the capital.
• Oaxaca: This state covers an area of 93,136 km2. Oaxaca de Juarez is the capital.
• Nayarit: This state covers an area of 29,378. Tepic is the capital.
• Michoacan: This state covers an area of 58,200 km2. Morelia is the capital.
• Jalisco: This state covers an area of 78,839 km2. Guagalajara is the capital.

• Baja California: This state has an area of 70,113 km2. Mexicali is the capital.
• Mexico City is the federal district of Mexico, that extends over an area of 1,499 km2 . Mexico City is the capital.
