Cozumel is an island, away from the eastern shore of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico in the Caribbean Sea.
It is located in front of Playa del Carmen, near the Yucatan Channel. Cozumel Map locates the beaches, airports, archeological sites and places of interest on the island. The island is famous for the Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park.
The island is one of the nine municipalities (municipios) of the Quintana Roo state. It is a popular tourist spot for its scuba diving, balnearios, and snorkeling. San Miguel de Cozumel is the principal township of the island. Palm Beach and Sunset Beach are two famous beaches on the island.
The length of the island is around 30 miles (48 km) and its width is 9.9 miles (16 km). It is the biggest Atlantic island in Mexico. It is also the third biggest island in the country, after Isla Ángel de la Guarda and Tiburon Island. The island is situated about 12 miles (20 km) from the mainland of the country and around 37 miles (60 km) south of Cancun.
