Mexican Poets


 

Mexican poets have played a critical role in enriching the literary traditions of the country. Some of the Mexico poets have considerably influenced the later generation poets. Poets from Mexico have even earned a global reputation among the international poets. Lopex Velarde Ramon, Octavio Paz, Xavier Villaurrutia and Rafael Guillen are some of the well known poets of Mexico.

Among the Mexican poets, Ramon Lopez has carved out a niche for himself. He was born in the year 1888. His poetry, sometimes bears the distinct marks of modernism. His poetry is known for the marvelous representation of the contradictory features of turbulence and countryside and the landscapes of Mexico. His poetic works bear an indelible influence on other Mexican poets, particularly Xavier Villaurrutia.

Octavio Paz is another significant name among the Mexican poets. He was born in the year 1914, in the Mexico City. Pablo Neruda Paz was extremely instrumental in encouraging Octavio Paz to become a poet. Since his teen age days Octavio Paz began to write poems. Luna Silvestre was his first poetry book. He also initiated a literary magazine by the name Barandal. Surrealist and modernist movements are quite evident in his poetic works. He sought to paint a picture of Mexico, across time, in his celebrated poetry Aguilo o sol? His more matured works explore the criss crossing of religion, politics, philosophy and art. Another famous poem written by Paz is Between going and staying the day wavers. Paz passed away in the year 1998.

Among the Mexican poets belonging to the contemporary era, the name of Rafael Guillen merits a special mention. Many of the writings of Rafael Guillen have been collated into a book by the name Our Vision is Our Weapon. As claimed by the government of Mexico, the original name of Marcos is Rafael Guillen.
